Mars Landing

The Phoenix Lander is going to land on Mars in about 11, check out more info at the NASA site. I remember watching the Rover Land many years ago and the failed landing a few years ago. Always interesting to watch.

Baby Bibs

There are many pregnant people around now so I have been working on making some baby type items. These bibs have been challenging me for a little while now. Some versions went into the scrap pile and are now little quilt squares. It is a basic pattern with cotton print and flannel. The putting together process is interesting but has not been photographed. I think I have the process down and here is the first successful test. (The fabric is from some shorts my Mom made be back around the summer of 6th grade!)

One thing these bibs needed was snaps so I got a handy little snap tool. I accidentally got a package of eyelets instead of snaps so there will be another trip to the store for me. Luckily it came with a few snaps.

The finished product, it isn't fancy but they will do the job, now on to making the pretty ones for a certain few babies.

Second Pouch

My coworkers birthday was this last week and I wanted to make one of these bags as a gift. After the failure of the first attempt I felt a little more confident in this one. Here are the components.

First I made a hem and attached the zipper, my new zipper foot is working great.

Next is to sew the lining together, you may recognize this fabric from the lining of the red purse.

Next the outside is sewn together around the edges and turned inside out, the lining goes over it. Here is where I messed up before. The lining needs to be hand stitched into place, I decided to pin the lining where I wanted it, on the first attempt I sewed the lining too high and the zipper could no longer function.

The finished product from the outside.

A glimpse of the lining on the inside. Overall I think it came out really good and I now have a stack of cut fabric and zippers to get started on some Christmas presents!

I would love this kind of garden

Check out this video, I follow this Pasadena families blog and they are pretty neat.

Zipper Pouch

The zipper pouch is one project that I have been looking at for awhile. It is pretty simple and doesn't take too many pieces. I love this lemon fabric so I figured I would test it out.

The trim is the first thing to be added.

I don't have pictures of this one being put together but the zipper is added, the sides and bottom are sewn up and the lining is sewn. This one actually didn't come out quite right and will go to the scrap pile but I have since started many more (getting an early start on Christmas presents!) and will be posting pictures soon.
